Gilles Peterson offers up a two hour mix to celebrate the life of Nigerian drummer Tony Allen, a founding father of Afrobeat and lifelong cross-cultural collaborator.
From Gilles Peterson: “Having had the pleasure of working with Tony Allen on several occasions, I found him to be the most generous person who was always curious about the music and the DJ culture that I was coming from. He always struck me with his curiosity and generosity when it came to all things music. I often found myself at festivals and gigs with him, where he would ask me questions about my role in music and always had an opinion on my (French) Radio Nova shows. It must not be underestimated the incredible work he did in France in the early 2000’s with the Comet label and electronic producers like Doctor L. Tony Allen changed the face of drumming. He was a true legend.”
