Top 10 Most Sampled Basslines [Playlist]

In the latest of our Top Ten ‘Most Sampled’ series, we investigate the Low End Theory with a look at the most sampled basslines. Given that many of these tracks are popular samples not only for their basslines but also frequently for their drums and other elements, this particular Top Ten is a less precise science than some we’ve published previously, but one thing is for sure – every one of these basslines is iconic and so too are the tracks they form part of. It’s striking that so many of the sources are from the 1970s, be it Funk, Soul, Reggae or Disco and none are more recent than the 1980s. Not only does this period in music history contain a rich seam of sample-friendly cuts, but the tracks are also helped in boosting their sample stats by being present for the explosion of sample usages in late 80s and early 90s.
