Back in 2005, wasistdas.co.uk launched as a site for “German cosmic music”. The remit would a year or two later change to “German cosmic music & beyond” before becoming a general “music: other” in the 2009 birthday relaunch. Nowadays, anything goes as long as it has that same lust for innovation and disdain for commercialism that “krautrock” had.
This August I found myself on holiday in Berlin. Suddenly in these surroundings, it made sense to freeze the reviews and start revisiting all those old German classics that were in my laptop and mp3 player. Suddenly, it became clear what to make for the 7th birthday. The 6th birthday mix was a delve into the music that had informed my current worldview on music. This one is simpler. It’s krautrock.
