Dorival Caymmi wrote some classic songs in a long career that lasted seven decades always rooted in the samba of his native Bahia. His career saw him collaborate and write for artists as diverse as Carmen Miranda, Jorge Amado, and the Walt Disney film company. The songs have a rhythmic pattern and vocal melodies influenced by the older sambas long before the bossa nova caught on. Many were inspired by the fishermen of Salvador Bahia, with titles like O Mar (The Sea), Noite de Temporal (Stormy Night), and O Pescador (The Fisherman). This mix contains thirteen interpretations of songs written by Dorival Caymmi, instrumental and vocal from the fifties, sixties and seventies in the bossa nova and jazz style.
