Martin James - “In The Mix”

Feel free to drop an email to : [email protected] Mixed and edited by myself. This page is a tribute to some of the legendary mixing masters fom the 70s & 80s like Froggy, Shep Pettibone, Larry Levan. Just too many to mention. In the 1970s and into the 1980s, I was heavily in to Disco, Soul, and Jazz/ Funk radio shows. Greg Edwards had “The Best Disco In Town” and “Soul Spectrum”. There was “The Robbie Vincent Show” and “The Sound of Sunday Night” But it wasn’t until I discovered Steve Howlett aka Froggy that changed the game for me. He was ahead of the game. Froggy had visited Billboard magazine's New York disco convention, and there he picked up the theory behind New York's DJs' mixing techniques. He studied the practice at Studio 54 and Paradise Garage, watching DJ Larry Levan synchronising the rhythm of two records, cross-fading to play sections of their sounds. Froggys sound system and beat matching techniques were untouchable. "The Froggy Mix" was born.
