Andre Harrell, an innovative music executive who in the late 1980s founded Uptown Records, a crucial bridge between the worlds of hip-hop and R&B, died late Thursday night. He was 59. Uptown as a label was a major influence on me personally in the late 80s and 90s, with Heavy D being one of my favorite MCs and of course the incomparable Mary J Blige. I just thought I’d give a quick tribute to some of my favorite joints from Uptown. RIP Andre. Thank you for the music.
