Following the untimely demise of the great Alan Dell, a seat was left vacant on his well loved show ‘Dance Band Day’; a vacancy to be eventually filled by former headmaster turned DJ and Radio Producer, Malcolm Laycock in 1994. Malcolm continued at the helm until 2009 a few months before his sad demise. By that time the programme had ceased to play Dance Band Music, Laycock considered that Radio 2 was abandoning it’s older listeners. Known for his opening catchphrase ‘Sunday Night at Ten’, Malcolm was a popular and worthy successor to Alan Dell.
