Kath McDermott

The moment that DJ Kath McDermott drops the needle onto the groove of her first pick of the night, the energy in the room changes. Her sets embody the spirit and passion of someone who has not only been DJing at the best parties for the last 30 years, but dancing at them. She was a resident for five years at Manchester’s queer extravaganza Flesh at The Haçienda, and one of the founding DJs behind Homoelectric. Kath has also moved crowds at Manchester International Festival, Ministry of Sound & Homobloc and warmed up for the likes of Confidence Man, Doves and Danny Krivit. But she remains devoted to the tightly knit crews of the underground, the kind she finds at Red Laser at The White Hotel, The Social Service, Kiss Me Again and Bollox. With a CV like this it’s not surprising that Bill Brewster interviewed Kath for the latest edition of ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’, a book tracing the global evolution of the DJ and the pioneers that shaped the sounds at every stage.
