I find it particularly interesting that Richard Wagner attended one of the performances in Paris in 1839 and later admitted that it was a major influence on “Tristan und Isolde.” He sent Berlioz the score of “Tristan,” inscribed “Au grand et cher auteur de ‘Roméo et Juliette’ l’auteur reconnaissant de ‘Tristan et Isolde.’”
