This is an oldskool rap and hip hop mix of the original 70s sound of Harlem and South Bronx. Before Kanye, before Biggie and Tupac, before Snoop and Dre, before Public Enemy and Run DMC, before even Blondie there was this.
This predates everything — gangsta, conscious, electro, turntablism, battles and dis records, the east/west beef, samplers and drum machines, gold chains and Adidas, jheri curls and vocoders, hypemen and gang choruses. In the beginning Rap was simple party music, a fun, celebratory genre with silly nonsense freestyle lyrics, a DJ looping disco grooves and a background crowd having a great time. This is the most fun you will ever have listening to rap music.
Difficulty: No Sugarhill Gang. Because that’s played out.
(note: Please excuse the quality on some tracks. This stuff is almost 40 years old.)
