Paris-born DJ and lifelong musician, DJ Cam, has returned to his roots with a mixtape that explores the French hip hop scene. A legendary trip hop producer, DJ Cam grew up alongside contemporaries like Daft Punk, Air and Bob Sinclair, and his upbringing has remained a presence throughout his work. He’s a master of reinvention, having lent his hip hop-jazz hybrid sound to remixes for everyone from Michael Jackson to Serge Gainsbourg, and he’s now on his third album release which is an unofficial soundtrack to Miami Vice.
Yet DJ Cam’s experimental tendencies never belie his extensive knowledge. We’re ashamed to say our familiarity with French hip hop doesn’t run deep – or deep enough, which is why we’ve called upon someone with the skills to put together a mixtape to school us on what’s up.
