Riddim is the Jamaican Patois pronunciation of the English word “rhythm,” but in calypso, soca, dancehall and reggaeton parlance it refers to the instrumental accompaniment to a song. These genres consist of the riddim plus the “voicing” (vocal part) sung by the deejay.
